This is really a great book! The author shares his recollections as a kid growing up with the Apollo program in the 60 and 70's. I was born in 1963 so while most of the lunar missions were beyond my memory by the time of Skylab I was totally into the space program. I found myself recalling many of the author's actions (eg first model rocket, searching for the good space books at the school library, the space coverage on TV etc) This book is written in a style as if you are sitting around the picnic table telling stories. Woven in are many great facts about the missions. I currently have Vol 2 which I am about to start and I am waiting for his Skylab and ASTP volume to be released. Great book!!Product details

Very Inspirational, great storytelling style & details. I remember watching many of these events on the evening news. Looking forward to SkyLab.
Although I was about the same age as the author, space flight never grabbed my attention. Now that I am older and more interested in history, these books provide me an easy way to relive those years and to actually understand them far better than I could have at the time. The humor also helps make them an easy and enjoyable read.
Loved all of this insight about some of the greatest times in our nation's aerospace history. Wes has definitely done his research along with his skill at presenting the information in a way that anyone can easily understand and enjoy. I grew up during these epic years of America's incredible space triumphs and I appreciate Wes for bringing these years back to life for me. I can't wait to see what he produces next!
An outstanding trip back through memory lane! Very well written and edited! I just got finished with "Growing Up with Spaceflight - Project Apollo Part 1" and I must tell you I truly enjoyed it. Growing up in Ohio at the same time and grade as Wes were growing up in Michigan, I can relate to much of what he had in the book.
This is just great reading Wes recount the Apollo days I was just like him, Every Apollo flight was like Christmas watching Walter Cronkite Im so glad to have witness all the Voyages and Im so glad thier was another Space Cadet like me in Michigan.We all heard the saying once a Marine always a Marine. Well for me its once a Space Cadet always a Space Cadet. Thanks Wes!

An excellent read for anyone interested in the Apollo program and told from a young boys perspective by an excellent writer.
